As per The World Health Organisation (WHO) Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus from the large group of viruses those causes illness ranging from the common flu to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).
The WHO has declared Coronavirus as Pandemic (A pandemic is a disease that is spreading in multiple countries around the world at the same time.)
Why the new virus is called as Novel Coronavirus?
WHO states that, The discovered virus – novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.
COVID-19 is a respiratory disease andinfected people will develop mild to moderate symptoms and recover without requiring special treatment. People who have underlying medical conditions and over 60 years old have a higher risk of developing severe disease and even death.
These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure (based on the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses).

In more severe cases, the virus infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.
