Ajwain is a well-known name in every Indian kitchen. Ajwain, also famously known as Carom Seeds (Scientific name: Trachyspermum Ammi) is a herb that is a very useful ingredient in Indian spices.

High blood pressure or hypertension is a common issue now-a-days which may lead to heart stroke. Carom seeds have a major component named thymol which has calcium-channel-blocking effects and could help lower blood pressure levels. 

Instant Relief from Indigestion and Acidity

That bloating feeling when foods don’t get digest is miserable to tolerate. Ajwain can help you in getting rid of those feelings.

Just have some ajwain with black salt and warm water to get rid of gassiness and indigestion and acidity.  You can also Boil a teaspoon of ajwain seeds in a cup of water till it is reduced to half, strain and drink this water for instant relief from indigestion.

Helps to Treat Cold and Cough

Ajwain is useful when you have cold and cough. Studies show that intake of carom seeds produced antitussive (cough-suppressing) effects helps in treating cough.

Carom seed also increases airflow to the lungs in asthmatic patients. Chewing ajwain with lukewarm water helps in curing a cold. It also helps in clearing the nasal blockage and discharges mucus.

Helps in Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain

Carom seeds have anti-inflammatory and anesthetic properties that help in giving relief from pain and swelling. It also has powerful antibiotic compounds that treat inflammation and rheumatoid pain.

Make a paste of a spoonful of carom seeds and apply the paste on the affected area for instant relief. You can also take a sitz bath adding some carom seeds to it.

An Effective Remedy for Piles or Hemorrhoids

Drinking buttermilk with carom seeds powder and rock salt after lunch/dinner is useful for minimizing the bleeding condition of piles.

Helps in Weight Loss and Boosts Metabolism

Ajwain is effective in boosting metabolism. We all know the higher the metabolism, the more we loose weight. So, no doubt ajwain helps in loosing weight.

You can take a spoonful of ajwain seeds 30 minutes before having breakfast. Taking ajwain first thing in the morning kick starts your metabolism.

Regulates Irregular Period

No one can understand the pain of period cramps and irregular periods except women. Carom seeds can help women in regulating periods and get rid of those period crams. It also helps in excessive bleeding.

At night time soak 2 spoons of carom seeds in a bowl and drink the water in the morning. It will beneficial with regular use.

To Stop Greying of Hair

Ajwain seeds are beneficial in grey hair problem. To prepare this mixture, add curry leaves, dry grapes, sugar and carom seeds in a single cup of water and boil it. Drink this water until you see the result.

Relief from Ear And Tooth-Ache

To treat ear pain use two drops of ajwain oil. You can also prepare ear drops using ajwain.

Heat one tsp and two tsp ajwain seeds in sesame oil. When the mixture turns red, remove from flame. Strain the mixture and set it off to cool. Apply as ear drops twice or thrice daily.

For tooth-ache gargle with a mix of lukewarm water, 1 teaspoon of ajwain and salt. You can also inhale the fumes of burning ajwain seeds to get read rid of tooth-ache.

May Prevent Kidney Stones

Carom seeds may prevent calcium oxalate deposition. This can potentially cut the risk of developing kidney stones.

When the mix of Ajwain seeds, honey, vinegar is used for 10 days, it helps to dissolve kidney stone that ultimately removes with urine.

Ajwain Water or Oma Water

Ajwain or Oma water is an ayurvedic drink. It cures the problem of indigestion for pregnant ladies by cleaning the uterus and stomach. It also solves the issue of irregular periods. Oma water is also often given to babies to reduce the problem of gas that causes discomfort.

To prepare ajwain water, boil 2 teaspoons of roasted ajwain seeds in water. Strain this mixture and drink. You can add 1 teaspoon of honey for flavour. Drinking ajwain water regularly is known to enhance your rate of metabolism, burns fat and thus helps in losing weight.
